Half Acre Cycling and the CCC have made the difficult decision to cancel the Montrose Beach — Illinois State Championship on December 7, 2025. It was not an easy decision, but the safety of everyone involved is paramount.

The combination of the recent deep snow, forecast for more snow, and severe cold all week/weekend (turning the snow to ice), makes us err on the side of caution, both for racers, but most of all for the volunteers/officials who would have to endure these conditions for an extended time. We hope you understand, and look forward to Montrose 2026!

While all CCC series events have a no refund policy, Half Acre Cycling will offer anyone already registered a refund if they desire (via BikeReg). Conversely, if anyone would like to ‘donate’ their entry fee to help defray the costs already outlaid by the team, it would be greatly appreciated. Any remaining funds will go towards the team’s BIPOC and Gender Equity Grant programs, as well as future races.

In lieu of racing, event sponsor Reed’s Local (who was scheduled to host the number pick-up party) will host a 21+ race memorial party where you can pour out a Malört for good ol’ Montrose 2025 and get your poster. The party is from 2pm-6pm on Sunday, December 7.

As the last race of the cyclocross season, Montrose Beach CX is packed with fun features and always promises an engaged, fun, and loud crowd. This race is the last of the Chicago Cross Cup series, and it’s the Illinois State Cyclocross Championship, which means you’re guaranteed some great racing–as a participant or spectator.

Taking place on the Chicago lakefront, over cricket hill and onto the beach, the course has challenging terrain backed up with beautiful views of the skyline (weather dependent, probably too cloudy to see anything). Easily accessible by red line or numerous buses, it is a great chance to come out and see the final race of the season.

Special thanks to 46 Ward Ald. Angela Clay and her staff for their support of this community event in the heart of Chicago.
