It was a mad busy weekend for the HAC crew. You know the seasons are starting to blur when people are forced to choose between road racing, endurance MTB racing, cross-country MTB racing, and a pre-season cyclo-cross event… in three states.
Among the teammates, we covered them all, with Zach and Chris contesting the Unnamed Epic MTB endurance event in Wisconsin while Erica, Kate, Tim, Jamie, Isaiah, Todd, and Patrick made the drive to Michigan to take on the Cherry-Roubaix road race. Sunday, Jason, Paul Brian and Jen raced the rescheduled Alterra Coffee Bean Classic WORS cross-country race in Wisconsin, while scores of HAC’ers stayed close to home in Illinois and rode for beer and glory (in that order?) at Jackson Park’s pre-season cyclo-cross tag-team. Reports are coming…

We’re excited that more than 30 women from as far away as Wisconsin have registered for the Women’s Cross Clinic! Due to space limitations in our classroom, though, we’ve had to drop the registration cap. Only a few spaces remain— don’t miss your chance to get in on this one. Thanks again to the Illinois Cycling Association for helping make this event so affordable.

Half Acre Cycling was all over the Palos Meltdown (AKA 2010 World Championships of Chicago Mountain Bike Racing) this past Sunday. With representation in every race and rolling particularly deep in the women’s beginner, men’s & women’s sport and men’s comp divisions, we raced hard and cheered harder. We celebrated the beautiful day with old friends from CAMBR, The Bonebell, Iron Cycles and Wheelfast Racing…and made new ones with the help of a fresh keg of Half Acre Brewery’s Daisy Cutter Pale Ale. Thanks to all our supporters we found ourselves with multiple podiums & top ten finishes. Can’t wait ‘till next year!

What a bummer, ladies. The rain last night has made the trails at Palos wet enough that they have closed them for the day. We will need to cancel the ride this morning.
You can monitor the CAMBr website to find out if they reopen later in the day. Meanwhile, we will schedule another date ASAP and let y’all know.
Hopefully, we will see more than a few of you at the race tomorrow. Please stop by the Half Acre tent and say hello!
Thursday August 5, 2010 Rides
We’re headed back to the trail! The third in our series of all-ladies trail rides will be Saturday August 21st. We will meet at 9am at the Wolf Road Woods parking lot in the Palos forest reserve. Palos has a wide variety of trails to suit every skill level. For those interested in trying out a race, Palos will be home to the Palos Meltdown mountain bike race the very next day.
Riders of all skill levels are welcome and experienced riders will be along to help those who are just starting out or looking to improve their skills. Our two previous rides have been a lot of fun! We hope that these rides will help more women get involved in mountain biking and build community and confidence among female and transgender cyclists in Chicago.
Please check the CAMBr website to make sure Palos is open for riding before you come out. If the light is RED, consider the ride canceled. Riding wet trails destroys them, and the hard work of volunteers. We’ll also post up here the night before if weather means the ride will have to be canceled. Fingers crossed for dry weather!
