What a bummer, ladies. The rain last night has made the trails at Palos wet enough that they have closed them for the day. We will need to cancel the ride this morning.
You can monitor the CAMBr website to find out if they reopen later in the day. Meanwhile, we will schedule another date ASAP and let y’all know.
Hopefully, we will see more than a few of you at the race tomorrow. Please stop by the Half Acre tent and say hello!
Just because it sounded fun, after not having raced a triathlon in 8 years, and only hitting the pool once in the last year, I decided to do an Xterra triathlon in Logansport Indiana this weekend. So, how’d it go? Here are some of my thoughts along the way.

Thursday August 5, 2010 Rides
We’re headed back to the trail! The third in our series of all-ladies trail rides will be Saturday August 21st. We will meet at 9am at the Wolf Road Woods parking lot in the Palos forest reserve. Palos has a wide variety of trails to suit every skill level. For those interested in trying out a race, Palos will be home to the Palos Meltdown mountain bike race the very next day.
Riders of all skill levels are welcome and experienced riders will be along to help those who are just starting out or looking to improve their skills. Our two previous rides have been a lot of fun! We hope that these rides will help more women get involved in mountain biking and build community and confidence among female and transgender cyclists in Chicago.
Please check the CAMBr website to make sure Palos is open for riding before you come out. If the light is RED, consider the ride canceled. Riding wet trails destroys them, and the hard work of volunteers. We’ll also post up here the night before if weather means the ride will have to be canceled. Fingers crossed for dry weather!
Questions? Please email mosleyjen at gmail dot com or juliadaher at gmail dot com.
PS: Don’t forget your helmet!

At $15 for 6 hours, the best value around for women interested in honing their cyclocross skills is half full with more than a month left before the event! The clinic, presented with the support of Illinois Cycling Association, features pro rider Kristin Wentworth and will cover basic cross info and skills – barriers, carries, sand, cornering- and includes on-the-bike practice and a fun race at the end of the day.
Don’t miss it! Registration is here.

Wilderness101 is a 101 mile mountain bike race in central Pennsylvania in the Allegany Mountains. It is the 5th race of eight 100 milers for the National Endurance Series (NUE).
Julie & I arrived after getting stuck in construction after the 10 hour drive on Friday. As we are preparing our two drop bags for the race Jeremiah Bishop, Christian Tangney and Kelly benefits rider Nick Waite are having a pow-wow by our car. They are all strategizing how to beat series leader Jeff Schalk. Jeremiah mentions that he will be at aid station 2 the 40 mile point in less than 2.5 hours… Julie and I just start laughing.
These races have a great laid back feel. We are at the start point at 7:00 AM ready to go, the announcer who has been rambling for 30 minutes says, “Is anyone still in the bathroom? No? Okay, have fun everyone! The race starts NOW!”
